She worked for the East Whittier School District from 1968 to 1975 as a Media Specialist and taught the Great Books program for gifted children. She was a lifetime member of the California PTA and a YMCA volunteer, leading a 600-member "Nation" in the Indian Guide and Indian Maiden program. In 1976 she returned to Stockton where she was Corporate Secretary for Sun-Diamond for seven years, followed by twelve years as Administrator for Carey Development.
In her "retirement" Adrienne's life revolved around her family and her love of learning. She was an avid reader, an expert in early English silver, a genealogist, history buff, and a consummate Scrabble player who began her mornings by finishing the New York Times crossword puzzle. Her intelligence, strength, dignity, kindness and warm heart made her beloved and respected by both friends and family.
Adrienne is survived by her daughters Julia Rebecca MacLeod (Mrs. Stephen Marleau), Stockton, Dana Elizabeth (Mrs. Blair Sanderson), St. Charles, Illinois; her son, Matthew David Thomas (Lindsey Pedersen), Phoenix, AZ; beloved grandchildren: Brian Douglas and Michael Ian MacLeod; Katherine Elizabeth and Laura Blair Sanderson; Sophia Grace and Alex Matthew Thomas; her devoted brother John Douglas (Sharon) Edge, Stockton; loving sister Robin M. She was born in Scranton, Pa., July 13, 1875. From Pennsylvania she moved to Burlington in Montana in 1888 with her family. She lived there until 1910, when she moved to Missoula, where she has lived since. In 1892 she was married to Jabez Doney in Butte. He died Jan 31, 1921.
She was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Community Covenant Church.
She is survived by five sons, Angus and Melvin Doney, Missoula; Fred, Arlee; George, Polson; and Robert, Anaconda; three daughters, Mrs William Phelps and Mrs Ethel Curry, both of Arlee, and Mrs Howard Kleinschmidt, San Bernadino, Calif; one sister, Mrs Arthur Steen, Missoula; two brothers, Edgar and Arthur York; both of Missoula; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Marsh, Powell & Livingston Chapel at 23 pm Monday. The Rev Richard Bennett will officiate and burial will be in Missoula Cemetery.16
