Bibliofox reported that on the 1851 British census, the occupation of Henry was shown as 'agricultural labourer'. Henry was living in Madeley with his wife, Sarah, two young children: Joseph aged 3 yrs and Mary aged 4 months, as well as a nephew called William Proudlove aged 15. It is likely that the nephew, William Proudlove is the oldest son of Henry's sister, Hannah Proudlove. Hannah's family moved to the Channel Islands for a few years, whilst William remained with the family in Staffordshire, before they all emigrated to the U.S.A. On the marriage certificate of Mary Proudlove and Robert Cooke in 1883,the rank/profession of Mary's father, Henry Proudlove is listed as 'gentleman'. Henry is buried in All Saints Churchyard, Madeley with his wife Sarah? and two of their sons who died young: Charles and Thomas Proudlove.2
Probate26 January 1882 His estate was probated on 26 January 1882 at Principal Registry, England. "Administration of the personal estate of Henry Proudlove, formerly of Madeley in the County of Stafford, Labourer, but late of West Heath, Congleton in the County of Chester, Yeoman, who died 9 November 1881 at West Heath was granted at the Principal Registry to Joseph Proudlove of Madeley Heath in the County of Stafford, Collier, the Son and one of the Next of Kin. Personal Estate £142.5s. 7d."10
