Elder L. Tom Perry, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called to his present Church position April 6, 1974, after serving as an Assistant to the Twelve since 1972.
Elder Perry's Church service began with a mission to the Northern States in 1942, after which he served for two years with the Marines in the Pacific. Subsequent Church positions include counselor in a bishopric in Lewiston, Idaho; counselor in a stake presidency in Sacramento, California; high councilor in the New York Stake; and president of the Boston Stake.
He was born August 5, 1922, in Logan, Utah, to Leslie Thomas and Nora Sonne Perry.
He received his B.S. degree in finance from Utah State University in 1949 and did graduate work there. His professional career was spent in the retail business, where he served as vice president and treasurer in companies located in Idaho, California, New York, and Massachusetts.
On July 18, 1947, he married Virginia Lee of Hyde Park, Utah, in the Logan Temple. She died December 14, 1974. They are the parents of two daughters and a son.

oObit  Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died today at about 3:00 p.m. at his home. He was 92 years old.
Elder Perry was ordained an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 1974, after serving as an assistant to the Twelve since 1972. Elder Perry's commanding physical presence combined with his enthusiasm and optimistic style made him a forceful as well as a popular figure among Church members across the world.
"That warmth, that graciousness, the fact that he really did like people and he liked all the members of the Church and appreciated them — I think that's how he'll be remembered," said Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Elder Cook said Elder Perry's witness of Jesus Christ would also be remembered. "Tom Perry bore a powerful witness of Jesus Christ. He knew the Savior; he loved the Savior."
"We must be bold in our declaration of Jesus Christ," Elder Perry taught in the Church's October 2011 general conference. "We want others to know that we believe He is the central figure in all human history. His life and teachings are the heart of the Bible and the other books we consider to be holy scripture."
As with the apostles in New Testament times, Latter-day Saint apostles are called to be special witnesses of Jesus Christ. Elder Perry was one of 15 men who help oversee the growth and development of the global Church, which now numbers over 15 million members.
Elder Perry spoke frequently about the importance of religion in society, the family and preserving religious freedom, emphasizing that the "essential freedoms of conscience, embedded in religious liberty, must be diligently preserved and protected." He worked closely with leaders of other faiths to promote the cause of religious freedom.
"He had this common touch and he was as comfortable with the common man as presidents and rulers and treated them all pretty much the same and had a way of relating to them and connecting with them that's just profound," said Lee Perry, Elder Perry's son.
"I think he'll be remembered as a champion of the family," Lee Perry said.
Lowell Tom Perry was born August 5, 1922, in Logan, Utah, to Leslie Thomas and Nora Sonne Perry. He served for two years with the Marines in the Pacific just after World War II. Elder Perry's Church service began with a mission to the Northern States in 1942. He subsequently served as a counselor in a bishopric in Lewiston, Idaho, counselor in a stake presidency in Sacramento, California, high councilor in the New York Stake and president of the Boston Stake.
He received a bachelor of science degree in finance from Utah State University in 1949 and did graduate work there. His professional career was spent in the retail business, where he served as vice president and treasurer in companies located in Idaho, California, New York and Massachusetts.
Elder Cook said of Elder Perry's business background, "He was very practical and very pragmatic, and that has blessed the whole Church. He was so concerned that the widow's mite be spent in a frugal way and that nothing be wasted and that there be a plan and there be accountability."
Elder Perry was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Lee, with whom he has two daughters and a son. Virginia Perry died December 14, 1974. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Taylor Dayton, whom he married in 1976.
The Church will announce details regarding funeral arrangements as they become available. It is undetermined as to when the vacancy in the Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be filled.12

(Mentioned) oObit24 October 2013 Theodore Sonne Perry was mentioned in the obituary of Jean James Pearce on 24 October 2013 at Logan, Utah; On Oct. 22, 2013, history records the death of one of the few remaining children of pioneer parents. Jean James Pearce Perry was the daughter of Charles Pearce, who came to Utah with the William Preston Pioneer Company in 1863. Her father was nearly 70 when she was born, on July 25, 1929, and he lived for six years and taught Jean pioneer standards. She also learned the duties of a pioneer wife and mother from her mother, Isabella James Pearce, whose mother came to Utah in the Daniel MacArthur handcart company of 1863.
The first duty of pioneers was to make sure their children utilized the talents acquired in the spirit world. As a result, Jean made certain her six children received advanced college degrees: Theodore Sonne Perry, Ph.D. from Princeton; Nora Lyn Perry Bair, four year nursing degree from Weber, M.B.A. degree from Utah State; John Christian Perry, M.D. degree from University of Utah; Jan Perry Malmberg and David Mark Perry, Juris Doctor from BYU, and Robert Dean Perry, Master's Degree in Education from Utah State. Her children married in the Temple and are the parents of 32 children, five of whom have already earned their doctor degrees.
Jean has also been blessed with nine great-grandchildren and five on the way. Jean has also been a help to and devoted to her husband, Theodore Sonne Perry, whom she married in the Salt Lake Temple on Jan. 20, 1950 (they claimed their marriage was planned by Jean's father and Ted's grandmother as they came to Cache County in the same pioneer company). Theodore held such occupations as lawyer, mayor, city and county attorney, bank director, hospital board and circuit judge, and church assignments as bishop, high councilor, and especially as Patriarch for 30 years, in which she was told and obeyed the instruction that the Spirit must always be present in a Patriarch's home. Jean served faithfully in the Church as teacher in Sunday School, Primary, and Mutual, as a Cub Scout leader, librarian, ward historian and monthly spiritual message writer for the ward newsletter. She was an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 26 years and served in nearly all the various offices.
Jean will be sorely missed by her family and friends, as she had the ability to talk with almost anyone who had problems and overcome their depressed feelings and allow them to depart from her with a happy feeling.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan. Services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Northwood Ward Chapel at 500 N. 100 East in Logan, and friends may call two hours prior to the services at the Relief Society room in the Chapel.4
Death*20 February 2023 Theodore Sonne Perry died on 20 February 2023 at Logan, Cache County, Utah, at age 97.6
oObit*  Theodore Sonne Perry was born on January 28, 1926, to Leslie Thomas Perry and Elsie Nora Sonne in Logan, Utah. Even as a child he demonstrated a keen intellect. He learned to read in kindergarten, so on the first day of class his first-grade teacher promoted him to second grade. As a result, he graduated from Logan High School at age 17. Like the rest of his class, he immediately went into military service during World War II. As a quartermaster in the navy, he manned the wheel of a naval attack transport ship that survived nine island invasions and two typhoons. On at least one occasion his mother was erroneously informed that his ship had been lost at sea.
At the end of World War II, he was called to serve a mission in the East Central States Mission. While there he served a large part of his mission without a companion as a supervising elder. After his mission he attended Utah State University and then he was accepted to study physics at the University of California at Berkeley. In California he couldn't forget a girl he had met during his last quarter at Utah State. Giving up on a career in physics, he returned to Utah and married Jean James Pearce on January 20, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted then began the study of law at the University of Utah and graduated at the top of his law school class.
He began work as an attorney writing government contracts. He worked at the Oakland Quartermaster Depot, Utah General Depot, Hill Air Force Base, Thiokol Corporation, and Hercules Powder Corporation. Leaving government work he worked with his father who was also an attorney. While in private practice, Ted was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States to try a case concerning the distinction between a federally chartered bank and a state chartered bank. Being recruited back into public service he became city attorney for Logan, Utah. Changes in the government of Logan City resulted in Ted being appointed mayor of Logan. As mayor he built a new fire station, a new police station, and a new court room. After his term as mayor, he served as Circuit Court Judge in Utah's First District from 1978 to 1988. During his career he also served as a Bank Director and a Hospital Board Member.
Ted always considered his work as a father more important than his professional career. He constantly admonished his children to pursue higher education. His children followed his advice and include: Theodore Sonne Perry, Ph.D; Nora Lyn Perry Bair, BSN, MBA; John Christian Perry, M.D; Jan Perry Malmberg, Juris Doctor; David Mark Perry, Juris Doctor; Robert Dean Perry, BS, M.Ed.
Ted has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has had many church assignments such as bishop, high councilor, and especially as Patriarch for over 30 years. During the last years of his life one of his favorite places to be was in the temple. He will be sorely missed by his family, but they trust that he is enjoying a joyful reunion with his wife who preceded him in death on October 22, 2013.
Ted passed away on February 20th 2023 at age 97. He is survived by his children Ted (Kathy) Perry, Lyn (Ralph) Bair, Chris Perry, Jan (Lynn) Malmberg, David (Michelle) Perry, and Robert (Cindy) Perry. All of Ted's children married in the Temple and counting spouses, his posterity now numbers over a hundred.
Funeral Services will be held at the North Logan 2nd Ward located at 1105 East 2100 North in North Logan, Utah on Thursday, March 2nd at 12:00 PM. A viewing will be held at the North Logan 2nd Ward on Thursday, March 2nd from 10:00 – 11:30 AM.
Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery with Military Honors. Services will be livestreamed and may be viewed online, as well as condolences expressed, at www.allenmortuaries.net.6

(Mentioned) oObit She was mentioned in the obituary of Lowell Tom Perry; Elder L.
It is undetermined as to when the vacancy in the Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be filled.6

Jean Perry, Wife, White, Female, 20, Married, born in Utah, Office Clerk, Retail Dry Goods Dept. Store
Isabelle Pearce, Mother-in-law, White, Female, 65, Widowed, born in Utah.2
Death*22 October 2013 Jean James Pearce died on 22 October 2013 at Logan, Cache County, Utah, at age 84.1
oObit*24 October 2013  On 24 October 2013 at Logan, Utah. On Oct.
100 East in Logan, and friends may call two hours prior to the services at the Relief Society room in the Chapel.1

oObit  On March 25, 2021, our beloved Dixon passed away at the age of 92, in Provo, Utah.
Carl Dixon Anderson was born February 5, 1929, in Mesa, Arizona. His parents were Carl Anthon Anderson, a pharmacist and part-owner of the town drug store, and Rizpah Genevieve Gibbons Anderson, an elementary school teacher, who educated Dixon in second and sixth grades. His lifelong appreciation for classical music and opera stemmed from his upbringing in a musical family, including his aunts and uncles, four of whom were music teachers. He also credited his character and love of the Gospel to his family.
Dixon dedicated his life to honoring and serving God; his wife, Patricia Anne Gladys Ellis Anderson, and family; and the many communities he helped. While studying at Brigham Young University, he met Patsy, the love of his life with whom he built a family, a 67-year marriage, and a career in serving others. He had the honor of baptizing Patsy, before his mission in Mexico and Guatemala, from which he returned with a ring. Dixon and Patsy were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 21, 1951. Their marriage was one of laughter, compassion, and generosity. Dixon enjoyed building improvements for the home, gardening, and filling their yard with Patsy's favorite flowers. They are the parents of five children: Ellis Dixon (Gabriela Melendez) Anderson, Dixie Gay (Robert C.) Maughan, Heidi Ann (Douglas W.) Petty, Carl Paris Anderson, and Patricia Anika Stonick.
A theme underlying Dixon's profession, devotion to the Gospel, and life was his conviction that we should strive to become better. He held himself to the highest standards in everything he did. Dixon received his Master of Arts and Doctorate in Romance Languages and Literature from The University of Texas at Austin. From there, he began a distinguished career as a professor at BYU, with highlights including serving as Chairman of BYU's Department of Spanish and Portuguese; implementing oral proficiency testing at BYU; directing the first study-abroad program to Mexico; and writing two textbooks (Spanish in Context and ¡Háblame!) that enabled thousands of students to speak Spanish, including during their missions.
Dixon recognized one of his greatest blessings as having a calling in the Church, including dutiful service as Mission President of the Argentina South Mission (1972 – 1975); Service Assignment to the Canary Islands with Patsy; Branch President in Spanish-speaking branches in Austin, Texas, and Provo, Utah; Gospel Doctrine teacher; MIA Superintendent; and Seventy and Stake Missionary. Patsy once wrote that Dixon engaged in a constant pursuit of knowing his God and being worthy to be called His friend. A true and humble leader, he inspired people to serve God with no other purpose in mind and empowered them to connect with and help others, using their talents and skills. As his colleagues remarked at his retirement, "Aunque la carrera termina, nos deja harto consuelo, su memoria," a gift for all who knew Dixon.
He is preceded in death by his wife, sister, Bonnie Anderson Milner, and his parents. He is survived by his children, 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many friends who visited and the kind team at Beehive Homes Provo and Tender Care Hospice, who helped us care for Dixon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at the Grandview 17th Ward, 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo. Friends may visit with the family at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E.
