Raised on the family farm in the Laagen Valley in the Sandsvaers region of Norway, Anders was educated in Norway at the Kongsberg Technical School. Prior to WWII, Anders worked in Oslo returning to work the family farm during the war. After the war, he was employed at Standard Telefon & Kabel.
Anders immigrated in 1950. He spent some time in Chicago and drove west. He was soon working for West Coast Telephone(GTE) in Everett. Andy spent the next 33 years making many close friends while working at the phone company.
Anders met Kay Kunkel in 1956 and they were married August 10th, 1957 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Everett.
Anders was the son of Tore Andersen Saatvedt and Gudrun Janson Saatvedt who preceded him in death. Sister Kirsten Thorrud, brother Rolf, and sisters Astrid Braaten and Else Asmundseth also preceded him in death, along with his daughter Kirsten Ann Saatvedt.
Anders leaves his wife of 47 years, Kay Saatvedt, and his son, Jon Anders (Benita) Saatvedt and grandchildren Tommes and Sara of Columbia City, Oregon, Jonathan of Beaverton and David (Amanda) and great granddaughter Kyrsten of Deer Island, Oregon. He leaves his brother Tommes (Kari) Saatvedt of Hokksund, Norway and his sister Oddlaug Ahlbom of Sarpsborg, Norway along with nieces and nephews in Norway, Jarl Saatvedt; Bjorg, Gro and Lise Asmundseth; Tore, Lillian, Tove, Rune, and Arve Braaten; Roger and Dag Lien; and Turid and Anders Saatvedt.
Anders also leaves sister-in-law Sheryl (Jim) Belcher of Fort Peck, Montana and nieces Kimberlee and Kirsten Belcher, Cindy Nelms, and nephews Matthew Belcher, Bill, Tim, Mickey and Todd Kunkel.
Anders loved music and singing. He even sang when hospitalized. He loved the outdoors and gardening. He was a member of the Norwegian Male Chorus of Everett, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Norwegian Commercial Club, and was a lifetime member of Sons of Norway. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren.2
